Final Submission

The bridge represents the history of women and the role and power they hold within society, the intertwining of multiple strands linking the two office spaces of Helen Keller (left) and Miranda Kerr (right). The concept of power in this design centres on the idea of a force which both client’s posses. Through their work, they are able to influence society in a positive way creating a chain reaction. Moreover, the orientation of this design is balanced reflecting the female mentality. The choice of colours in red and orange symbolise the power associated with each client. These are not subtle colours, the suggest power and authority and demand to be noticed. I chose these colours as they reflect the history of women and their role in society. The use of white suggests purity and honesty of these clients and balances with the boldness of the other colours. The location of the bridge and office spaces in a desert area denotes the idea of struggle and also reflects the history of women.

Miranda Kerr’s office space and elevator is inspired by her support of the ‘green movement’ and her profound immersion in Buddhist spirituality. The organic shape of her office space reflects her belief in living environmentally friendly. Her elevator is reminiscent of a Japanese Zen garden. Though she is famous as a model and fashion icon, her morals and spirituality create an energy that inspires society uphold a similar way of a balanced lifestyle.

Helen Keller’s office space is centred on the idea of her ability to overcome her disability. The exterior façade is compiled of multiple rectangles resembling the different obstacles she had to overcome in her life. This sculptural wall is penetrated by the natural light, which in turn floods the interior space. The elevator is an inverted cube that represents how Keller can be perceived as blind and deaf from her external appearance, but is not bound by these disabilities.

the meeting spot is located below the bridge and office spaces, denoting how although the clients have a strong influence within society and history and are indeed powerful icons, they are still grounded by their beliefs and abilities, and are no better than you or I. The dinning table is simple with its design based in the idea of community. A community of friends, family or followers provides these clients with the power that makes Helen Keller and Miranda Kerr such influential women in society.

KELLER'S OFFICE LEFT & KERR'S RIGHT LINKED BY INTERCONNECTED BRIDGE (see below post for explanation)

KELLER'S LIFT: AN INVERTED CUBE TO DEMONSTRATE HER POWER TO REFUSE TO LIMIT HER SELF TO HER POWER. THE EXPERIENCE OF A CUBE FROM THE EXTERIOR IS DIFFERENT TO THE EXPERIENCE OF CUBE ON THE INTERIOR. THOUGH KELLER WAS BLIND AND DEAF, SHE WAS NOT DISABLED.

KERR'S LIFT: INSPIRED BY JAPANESE ZEN GARDEN'S REFLECTING KERR'S BUDDHIST SPIRITUALITY, WHICH PROVIDES HER WITH MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL STRENGTH.
THE BRIDGE IS THE MOST VITAL ASPECT OF THE DESIGN, IT IS ABLE TO BRIDGE TWO WORLDS TOGETHER AND DEMONSTRATE THE CHANGE AND EVOLUTION THAT HAS OCCURRED IN REGARDS TO WOMEN AND POWER. THIS TABLE AS AN MEETING PLACE FOR THE TWO CLIENTS IS A TESTAMENT TO THE BRIDGE ABOVE, ACCENTUATING ITS IMPORTANCE. IT IS CURVACEOUS LIKE THE FEMALE BODY AND EXPLORES THE IDEA THAT WOMEN ARE NO LONGER SUBJECT TO OPPRESSION, BUT RATHER THEY HAVE BECOME BOLD AND INTRIGUING CHARACTERS WITHIN SOCIETY.

They transcend their time. Unflinching to their commitments, ideals and activism. Keller became a prolific write, a peacemaker, a passionate advocate, not just for blind and disabled people, but for equal rights. She was fully committed to preserving the solidity, stability and unity of better programs, products and technologies for the disabled. German Chancellor Angela Merkel passionately called for an "acceleration" of solar powered houses with efforts to hopefully regulate rules and try to stabilise organic food and limit government spending ten years from now. Miranda Kerr suggested that writing incessantly to state Legislatures, Congress and presidents should make us think about meaningful change towards equal rights.

The initial idea for Hawking's lab (left) was in relation to his theory of black holes which he uses the analogy of dice to describe how God's creation of black holes was to confuse the human race. The concept translated into by building is through the confinement of the building and how the client's view of the natural world is restricted and directed by both the vertical and horizontal planes. Darwin's lab is situated between two peaks reflecting his theories of evolution relating to ideologies of creation.

Since both clients (Darwin and Hawking) have some relationship or connection to the environment and nature in their theories, I thought it fitting that the meeting place should be enhanced by the natural elements and more importantly it should be below their Labs denoting their superiority in knowledge and thought.

This image clearly depicts how the horizontal planes of Hawking's lab restrict the client's sight in the vertical direction. It also reveals the openness of the space allowing the changing light of the sun/moon to affect the internal experience of space.

Similar to the above image, this shot of Hawking's lab explicitly reveals how the vertical walls restrict the clients view and understanding of the wider environment. Moreover, this shot highlights the relationship between Hawking's and Darwin's Labs via a single vertical plane. This reflects how both clients are on an equal intellectual level to each other.

The central idea for Darwin's lab was based on his theory of natural selection by geometrical ratios. I used the variable of height and decreased the size of the Lab by a 1:4 ratio. Similar to Hawking's Lab, Darwin's space is open allowing not only the light to change the experience of the space, but also to allow the clients to take advantage of the inspiration derived from the natural environment.

The Black Box

Shadow As Threshold

The Black Box takes into consideration and feeds off time and light. Depending on these factors, the structure changes and evolves creating new experiences of the space for the voyeur, irrespective of negative or positive space. This is a similar approach to architecture, which I have employed. My structure, hosting laboratories for Charles Darwin and Stephen Hawking, is compiled from positive and negative spaces that effectively relate to each other through the dependence on the ever-changing light source of the sun and moon. The open and closed spaces of these laboratories is ceaselessly changing over a 24-hour period and the experience within these spaces are never the same, because of the sun and moon's shifting placement in the sky as wells as the inconsistent weather patterns.

Electroliquid Aggregation

Each organic being is striving to increase the use of low cost and low-temperature processes by throwing out dice and replacing them with ink-jet printing and pizza ovens. At some period in life, during some season of the year, during each generation or at intervals, God sometimes confuses us, resulting in great destruction and a struggle for life. What started off as a brainstorming session, resulted in the iJet cell concept to manufacture solar cells that can't be seen in a geometrical ratio. Thus it seems the vigorous, the healthy, and the happy survive and multiply proving Einstien was doubly wrong when he said, God does not play dice.
